Coaching can’t replicate the full depth of traditional initiation — that would require community, ritual, and time in a way that structured coaching isn’t designed to provide. But it can do something essential: it can create the conditions for a man to face himself honestly.
In my coaching, I use the Three Thresholds as a diagnostic and developmental framework. We identify where a man is stuck — which threshold he hasn’t fully crossed — and we work directly with that material. That might mean confronting patterns of avoidance, examining the father wound, redefining what success actually means, or finding language for a purpose that’s been dormant.
The coaching itself becomes a form of initiation: structured, rigorous, and honest.
